October, 2007:
WAVA submitted a grant application to the Washington State Life Sciences Development Fund. The application is for three years of support targeted at developing the WAVA Core, Core Services, and to provide gap funding for 5 vaccine projects. Initial gap funding is targeted for:
- E. coli O157
- Human Malarial Challenge
- Influenza
- HIV
- Syphilis
If the application is successful, funding would begin in May, 2008.

The seed money is intended to fund key personnel to establish the core operating principals, identify initial priorities for shared services and projects, and to seek external funding for continued operations and expansion.
